My home feels disjointed – how do I make it flow?

When decorating room by room, it’s easy to end up with a home that feels disconnected. A modern living room might sit next to a farmhouse-style kitchen, or clashing colours might make spaces feel at odds with each other. And whilst you want each room to have personality and not feel too matchy-matchy, the overall space should still feel cohesive.

How we’ve solved the problem in a free design consultation:

In one consultation, a homeowner loved their eclectic mix of furniture but felt their home lacked a sense of continuity. We suggested using a core colour palette (or a red thread as we designers would say) that could be repeated in different ways throughout each room, whether through paint, accessories, or soft furnishings. We also advised mixing in consistent materials, such as choosing brass accents across lighting, door handles, and picture frames to subtly tie the spaces together. By making these small updates, the home started to feel more intentional and polished without sacrificing individuality.

My small room feels super cramped and claustrophobic!

Many homeowners, especially in city flats or townhouses, feel their rooms are cramped. Often, it’s not about the actual square footage, but it’s about how the space is arranged, the colours used, and the furniture choices.

How we’ve solved the problem in a free design consultation:

In a recent consultation with a client who had a small living room that felt cluttered despite only having the essentials, we suggested a few quick fixes:

  • Swapping a bulky coffee table for an ottoman which offered an extra seat and more storage, saving more space and creating a sense of openness.
  • Instead of pushing all the furniture against the walls to create more floor space (a common mistake that can actually make a room feel more closed in), we suggested pulling key pieces slightly away from the walls. By moving the sofa a few inches forward and repositioning the armchairs more centrally, we created a more inviting, open layout.
  • Using a large area rug to anchor the seating area, creating a more cohesive and less chaotic feel.
  • Instead of defaulting to white (another all too common design faux pas), we recommended a deep green feature wall, which made the space feel larger by adding depth.

I just moved into a new build and have no storage!

New builds often lack built-in storage, leaving homeowners with nowhere to put their belongings. Without smart storage solutions, things can quickly start to feel messy.

How we’ve solved the problem in a free design consultation:

One new build homeowner who recently had a free design consultation with us was struggling with built-up clutter, and even after a clear out that Marie Kondo would be proud of, they were still stuck!

In the free call, our designer suggested floating shelves for the living room which didn’t compromise floor space, multifunctional pieces for extra hidden storage and also the perfect spots where beautiful built-ins could be installed.

Every home is a little different, but with a designers expert eye on your space, you will soon find yourself discovering storage spots you never even thought possible!

I have no idea which layout works for my space

Choosing the right furniture arrangement can be overwhelming. It’s easy to place things where they “fit” rather than where they function best. Bad layouts can make a room feel cramped, unbalanced, or just not quite right!

How we’ve solved the problem in a free design consultation:

A couple had just moved into a new home and wanted to buy furniture, but they were nervous about choosing the wrong sizes. In their consultation, we helped them map out different layout options using simple sketches. We also advised them to use masking tape on the floor to mark out furniture sizes before purchasing anything. This gave them a clear plan to follow, preventing those pesky expensive mistakes.

I have an awkward space that I don’t know how to utilise

Many homes have small, recessed areas that seem too big to ignore but too small to be functional, and our clients find themselves stuck in the debate of whether to fill that gap in or turn it into a feature. Talking to one of our designers can help you confidently make the right choice!

How we’ve solved the problem in a free design consultation:

A client had a large niche at the top of her stairs, and it was stopping her from decorating the wall properly. Instead of working around it, we suggested filling it in completely, giving her a clean, smooth wall where she could create a striking gallery of framed art. This simple change transformed an awkward space into a stylish focal point.

Help! I chose the wrong sofa

Buying a sofa is a big decision, and sometimes once you have it your room, you panic and realise it’s not quite the right size or the style is off for the space. But, no need to stress – our designers can make it work

How we’ve solved the problem in a free design consultation:

A client had bought a stunning contemporary sofa, but it felt disconnected from her more traditional décor. We advised using a large neutral rug to visually connect the sofa with the rest of the room, adding cushions that mixed both modern and classic patterns to tie everything together. These small styling tweaks made the sofa feel like it belonged without having to change anything else.

I love the idea of pattern and colour, but I’m afraid to commit

Many people want to add pattern or colour to their homes but worry about making the wrong choice or getting tired of it quickly. With one of our expert designers by your side, you can gain colour confidence, finding the perfect shade and patterns, discovering the right way to add it to your home.

How we’ve solved the problem in a free design consultation:

A client wanted her bedroom to feel more vibrant but was hesitant to commit to a fully painted room. We suggested an accent wall behind the bed in a bold but timeless shade, keeping the rest of the walls neutral. To introduce pattern without overwhelming the space, we recommended layering in patterned cushions, a textured throw, and a statement rug. These elements added personality and depth, while still being easy to swap out if she ever wanted a change.

My hallway is gloomy and cluttered

Creating a welcoming entrance helps set the tone for your entire home, but these narrow spaces are hard to style and are also neglected, being thought of only as a way to get to other rooms, rather than being a room in itself!

How we’ve solved the problem in a free design consultation:

A client’s hallway felt dark and cramped. We suggested adding a large mirror to reflect light and create the illusion of space, swapping out an old pendant light for a statement fixture, and using a narrow console table to add function without taking up too much room. These simple updates transformed the hallway from a dumping ground into a stylish first impression.

My room feels unfinished, but I don’t know what’s missing

How we’ve solved the problem in a free design consultation:

A client’s living room was well-furnished but lacked warmth. We recommended layering in soft textiles like a textured rug and cosy throws, introducing different materials like wood and woven baskets, and adding greenery for a fresh feel. These small, inexpensive updates will make the space feel complete.
